Whipple's Poly V belts uses the highest quality materials and with Whipple's
commitment to quality your equipment will keep running long after other belts would have worn out.
At Whipple Superchargers Systems ....
We offer a wider variety in sizes of Poly V Belts than any other manufacturer,
and all of them are covered by our guarantee. Poly V Belts are particularly
good for high speed and/or high ratio applications which conventional belts
are unable to handle. The smooth, vibration free performance and excellent reverse
bend characteristics of this belt enable the design of single belt, compact
drive systems. It is available in two industrial standard cross sections with
superior oil and heat resistant qualities.
The Poly V Belt is gaining wide acceptance in the automotive field due to
the advantages it exhibits over convention V-belts. Small section Poly V Belts
(H and J sections) have been used in the appliance and business machine industry
for many years. Recently, due to the need for smaller pulley diameters and increased
performance, Poly V Belts have been selected for use on many applications. These
applications range from the single multi-rib accessory drive concept (SMAC)
for passenger cars to water pump, alternator, and air conditioning drives on
heavy trucks. In addition, some fan drives on construction equipment are being
placed in production.
The demand that smaller pulley diameters and increased performance have placed
upon belts has brought about the utilization of the "K" and "L"
section Poly V Belts. The "K" and "L" section Poly V Belts
have been found to be correctly dimensioned to allow satisfactory application
of the majority of automotive accessory drive systems. Poly V Belt sections
which are designated by the letter "K" and "L" are easily
identifiable by measuring the distance between the adjacent ribs within a belt.
The "K" section belt has a smaller rib than the "L" belt
and the overall thickness of the "K" is less than the "L".
Examples below are for reference only. Dimensions and rib profiles can and will
be changed to improve belt performance and to alleviate problems which may occur
on specific applications. Consult our technical department before using these
dimensions and profiles on belt specifications. Belt dimensioning is typically
deferred to the belt manufacturer, at least through the development stage. After
development of a satisfactory Poly V drive system, non-classified belt dimensions
and material specifications will be supplied on request.

Poly V belts can be manufactured in a variety of lengths, number of ribs and
material specifications. The capability of Whipple to supply Poly V belts using
several different processes enables the rubber compounder and engineer total
freedom in the selection of materials to obtain maximum belt performance on
each individual application. Belt lengths between 20 in. (500mm) and 120 in.
(3050mm) are easily manufactured, while belt lengths outside this range are
available as special production orders. Poly V belts are produced in sleeve
form so that the number of ribs required by the customer for an individual belt
can be slit or cut from the sleeve. This versatility allows Whipple to supply
several different belt widths (number of ribs) of the same length from the same
tooling.
